The American Political Science Association (APSA) is pleased to announce a Call for Applications from early-career scholars based in the Arab MENA region who are interested in attending the 2025 Summer Institute for Qualitative and Multi-Method Research. APSA will support up to three MENA scholars to attend the forthcoming IQMR, held at the Maxwell School of Syracuse University from June 15-27, 2025.
The summer institute trains researchers to create and critique methodologically sophisticated qualitative research designs, including case studies, tests of necessity or sufficiency, and narrative or interpretive work. It explores the techniques, uses, strengths, and limitations of these methods, while emphasizing their relationships with alternative approaches. Attendees will present and receive constructive feedback on their own research plans and designs.
Selected scholars will need to arrive in Syracuse, NY (USA) no later than Saturday June 14 and sessions will commence on Sunday June 15. The institute will run until the evening of Friday June 27, with a pause for the Juneteenth holiday on June 19, and a two-day weekend break on June 21 and 22. Invited scholars will be supported to attend the summer institute through a full waiver of participation fees, shared-accommodation for the duration of the program, as well as roundtrip economy-class airfare. Participants must be proficient in English and commit to attending the entire program.

While there will be some changes for 2025, these materials should give you a good sense of what to expect at IQMR. Invited participants will be able to select specific courses and finalize their own schedule prior to arrival at the Institute.
