
The Scoville Fellowship offers recent college and graduate school alumni full-time, paid fellowships lasting 6-9 months to work on international peace and security issues in Washington, DC. Fellows are matched with one of over 25 participating public-interest organizations, gaining valuable hands-on experience through research, writing, event organization, and public advocacy efforts.
Key Areas of Focus:
- Arms control (nuclear, biological, chemical, and conventional).
- Conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and atrocity prevention.
- Defense budgets, diplomacy, and emerging technology threats.
- Environmental and global health security.
Fellows also engage in professional development through meetings, congressional hearings, and policy briefings with experts. Alumni often pursue advanced degrees or careers in public-interest organizations, academia, government, and media.
Eligibility:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree by fellowship start; graduate degrees encouraged.
- Qualifications: Strong academic record and interest in peace and security issues. Relevant coursework or independent study is preferred.
- Experience: Public-interest activism or advocacy (especially in peace/security) is highly desirable.
- Citizenship: Open to U.S. citizens and non-citizens in the U.S. with work visas.
Preference is given to applicants without significant prior experience in Washington, DC public-interest or government roles.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Annual salary: $48,948 ($4,079 per month).
- Basic health insurance, mentoring, a professional development stipend, and relocation costs to DC are provided.

- Fall 2025 Fellowship: Apply by January 6, 2025 (start between July 15 and October 1, 2025).
- Spring 2026 Fellowship: Apply by October 6, 2025 (start between January 15 and April 1, 2026).
