The Salzburg Global International Law Fellows Network invites early-career international lawyers to participate in a transformative program designed to address modern threats to democracy and the rule of law.

Program Overview

This exclusive program empowers international lawyers with 5–10 years of experience to engage with critical issues affecting democratic governance, including disinformation, populism, and emerging technologies. Participants will explore innovative solutions, build networks, and deepen their understanding of how law can safeguard democratic institutions in an evolving world.

Participant Profile

The program seeks 30 early-career international lawyers from diverse fields, including:

  • Private practice
  • International institutions
  • Academia
  • Non-profits

Applicants should have:

  • 5–10 years of legal practice.
  • A demonstrated commitment to democracy and the rule of law.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a drive to use law as a tool for change.

Key Program Features

  • Format:
    • Duration: 2.5 days
    • Activities: Plenary discussions, small working groups, and curated conversations.
    • Chatham House Rule to ensure open, candid discussions.
  • Goals:
    • Build a global network of legal professionals committed to the rule of law.
    • Address current threats to democracy and propose practical solutions.
    • Create tools and strategies to integrate rule of law principles into international legal practices.
  • Topics Addressed:
    • Regulation of emerging technologies like AI to uphold legal principles.
    • Solutions to democratic backsliding.
    • Mitigating geopolitical conflicts and protecting marginalized populations.
