Arab Center for research and Policy Studies (CAREP) and The Arab Reform Initiative (ARI) will held an event on Arab Diaspora Politics in a Post-2011 Context

The Arab uprisings of 2010-2011 catalyzed shifts in diaspora engagement, leading to new challenges and opportunities for political mobilization among displaced communities. Contextual Background

This seminar takes a critical approach to the term diaspora, challenging its conceptualization as a fixed entity. Drawing on foundational and contemporary literature, the discussions highlight:

  • The evolving identities and strategies of Arab diasporas post-2011.
  • Barriers to mobility, transnational repression, and statelessness.
  • The impact of climate change and conflict on forced displacement.
  • How diasporas influence conflict dynamics and societal perceptions in their host countries.

By addressing these multidimensional issues, the seminar aims to foster a rethinking of diaspora politics and provide tools for addressing contemporary challenges.
