The American University in Cairo is looking for Officer, Research, Center for Migration and Refugee Studies (Grant Position).

The role supports the Egyptian Migration Hub by conducting and analyzing research on labor economics in the MENA region and EU. The officer will draft research reports, policy papers, and situational analyses while presenting findings in dissemination activities.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Thematic Research:
    • Conduct desk reviews on labor economics in MENA and EU regions.
    • Identify key thematic research areas and priorities.
  2. Market Assessments:
    • Perform mapping and assessments for Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and EU countries.
  3. Data Analysis and Reporting:
    • Analyze statistical data using software and produce statistical and labor market assessment reports.
    • Draft detailed research and policy papers.
  4. Dissemination and Communication:
    • Present findings and support the visibility and communication of the project.
  5. Additional Tasks:
    • Undertake other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Education:

  • Master’s degree in political economy or economics from an accredited institution.

Experience:

  • 5–7 years of experience, including 3–4 years in social research, especially in labor migration in/from the MENA region.

Skills:

  • Technical Skills: Quantitative and qualitative research, data collection, analysis, and report writing.
  • Software Proficiency: SPSS, STRATA, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluent in English and Arabic (written and spoken).
  • Communication: Strong drafting, editing, and presentation skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Based at the AUC New Campus with potential field visits to Egyptian governorates for fieldwork.
