Call for Papers: MESA 2025 Annual Meeting

Deadline: 13 February 2025

The 59th Annual Meeting of the Middle East Studies Association (MESA) will take place in person in Washington, DC, from November 22–25, 2025.

Submission Details:

• Categories:
  1. Pre-organized Panels: 4–6 papers on a common subject (15–20 min presentations).
  2. Pre-organized Roundtables: 5–8 shorter presentations (5–10 min each).
  3. Individual Paper Abstracts: Combined into panels by the Program Committee.
  4. Special Sessions (urgent topics) and Professional Development Workshops: Directly submitted to MESA Secretariat.

Criteria for Acceptance:

1. Contribution: Novel insights, sources, or findings.
2. Source Material: Archival, published texts, interviews, or other forms of evidence.
3. Findings: Clear conclusions and significance.

Key Guidelines:

• Proposals must be anonymous and submitted via the myMESA portal.
• Membership for 2025 is required for submission.
• Word limits: 400 words (300–400 for panels/roundtables, 200–300 for roundtable participants).
• Pre-organized panels have the highest acceptance rate.

Important Dates:

• Proposal Deadline: February 13, 2025.
• Notifications: By April 30, 2025.
• Pre-registration Deadline: May 15, 2025.

Special Proposals:

• Submit Special Sessions by April 1, 2025, and Workshops by May 1, 2025.
• Late-breaking topics may be considered.
