The Middle Eastern and North African Studies Program and the Department of Religion at Bowdoin College invite applications for a two-year visiting assistant professor position beginning July 1, 2025. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position with a teaching load of two courses per semester for the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 academic years.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach courses on the religious traditions of the Middle East.
  • Teach courses on modern Middle Eastern and North African History.
  • Focus on contemporary history and culture of the Middle East and Islam (preferred).

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Middle Eastern Studies, Religion, or a related field by July 1, 2025.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive and innovative teaching practices.
  • Strong ability to support and engage with a diverse student population.
