The African Snakebite Alliance (ASA) is offering research grants to improve health outcomes for people affected by snakebite envenoming (SBE) in Africa. These grants aim to address policy and practice evidence gaps through multidisciplinary research.
Priority Research Areas:
Burden of Snakebite Envenoming (SBE):
- Improve data accuracy on SBE incidence
- Identify hotspots through mapping and surveillance
- Assess long-term economic & social impacts of snakebites
Treatment & Access:
- Optimize antivenom distribution & supply chain
- Evaluate community-level treatment decentralization
- Improve healthcare facility access
- Enhance rehabilitation & quality of life post-bite
Funding Details:
Network Research Grants:
- 3 grants available (2-year projects)
- Up to £100,000 per project
- Collaboration required: Teams from at least two different African countries
Postdoc Research Grants:
- 2 grants available (2-year projects)
- Up to £50,000 per project
- Open to early-career researchers (<5 years post-PhD or MD/Veterinary degree with 2-5 years of research experience)
Eligibility Criteria:
Network Research Grants (£100,000)
- Lead applicant must hold a PhD
- Team from at least two African countries
- Based at a university, research institute, or NGO in Africa
Postdoc Research Grants (£50,000)
- PhD obtained within the last 5 years (or expected within 1 year)
- Medical/Veterinary degree holders (2-5 years of research experience)
- Project must be conducted in at least one African country
- Based at a university, research institute, or NGO in Africa
