the Charité Center for Global Health (CCGH), in collaboration with the WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence (WHO Pandemic Hub), is excited to launch its inaugural Research Fellowship Program for 2025. This initiative invites academic researchers from diverse disciplines and countries to contribute to applied global health research, focusing on priority research areas that will advance our collective understanding of pandemic and epidemic threats and better inform decision-making in health emergencies. The Fellowship is also aligned with overarching research themes.
The program is open to mid- to senior-career researchers. Fellows will have the opportunity to join CCGH and WHO Pandemic Hub in Berlin, Germany for up to six months in 2025.
Fellows will work on their own projects collaboratively between CCGH and the WHO Pandemic Hub, benefiting from mentorship, collaboration opportunities, and engagement within Berlin’s Global Health ecosystem to foster long-term partnerships.
- Duration: June–December 2025 (3–6 months, preference for 6)

Who Can Apply
- Career Stage:
- Postdoctoral researchers (mid-career: 5–15 years into research; senior: 15+ years)
- Exceptional early-career researchers may be considered
- Disciplines: Open to health and non-health researchers relevant to public health intelligence
- Requirements:
- Independent researcher or affiliated with an academic institution
- Strong English proficiency (minimum C1 level)
- Clear research proposal aligned with program priorities
- Complete application documents
Priority Research Areas
You must submit a proposal aligned with one or more of the following:
- Artificial Intelligence & Technological Advances
- Data Preparedness
- Analytical Frameworks
- Multisectoral Approaches
- Other thematic areas in pandemic and epidemic intelligence
Fellowship Activities
As a fellow, you will:
- Collaborate on joint research with WHO and CCGH teams
- Produce high-impact outputs like:
- Peer-reviewed journal articles
- WHO technical reports
- Grant proposals
- Dashboards, policy briefs, models, etc.
- Engage with Berlin’s Global Health ecosystem and benefit from interdisciplinary mentorship
Fellowship Funding
All core costs are covered:
- Living Allowance: Based on German public sector (E14 Level 2)
- Travel Support: Includes one round-trip and one European conference
- Publication Support: One publication funded
- Insurance Coverage: Reimbursed
