The University of Melbourne invites applications for the 2026 Human Rights Scholarship, designed to support high-achieving graduate research students committed to the peaceful promotion and protection of human rights around the world.
This prestigious award supports candidates whose research is focused on human rights issues such as Indigenous justice, gender equality, refugee rights, and more. The scholarship offers full financial support and access to a vibrant research environment ranked #1 in Australia.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Apply for or be currently enrolled in a Master by Research or PhD at the University of Melbourne.
- Conduct research directly related to human rights.
- Demonstrate a strong background in human rights advocacy, either through academic, professional, or volunteer experience.
- Not hold a graduate research degree at the same level.
- Not have previously received a University of Melbourne graduate research scholarship.
Scholarship Benefits
- Living Allowance: AUD $43,500 per year (pro rata for part-time students), indexed annually
- Full Tuition Coverage:
- Up to 2 years for Master’s by Research
- Up to 4 years for Doctoral students
- Relocation Grant:
- AUD $2,000 (within Australia)
- AUD $3,000 (international students)
- Health Insurance: Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for international students
