The Arab NGO Network for Development (ANND) invites civil society actors, climate advocates, and stakeholders from across the Arab region to join a webinar focused on crafting a unified Arab civil society position ahead of the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30).
Purpose of the Webinar
This is the first in a series of dialogue meetings organized by ANND to:
- Enhance civil society engagement in regional and international climate negotiations
- Present key topics on the COP30 agenda
- Facilitate the development of a comprehensive Arab civil society position paper
- Support the creation of a fair, inclusive, and regionally reflective climate discourse
Why This Matters
As COP30 approaches this November in Belém, Brazil, political, financial, and procedural roadblocks continue to limit global climate progress. Key observations from the June 2025 Bonn Climate Conference include:
- A sharp decline in ambition and political consensus
- Delays in addressing climate finance, technology transfer, and adaptation strategies
- Failure to implement commitments such as the Dubai Declaration on phasing out fossil fuels
- Mounting frustration from least developed countries and civil society regarding negotiation transparency
The Arab Region’s Challenges
Despite being highly vulnerable to climate change, Arab civil society faces several systemic barriers to effective participation:
- Lack of a conducive political and legislative environment
- Weak interregional coordination
- Absence of a shared vision on climate justice, just transition, and adaptation finance
Looking Ahead
This webinar is a critical step toward building regional solidarity and elevating Arab perspectives in international climate platforms. By amplifying civil society’s voice and aligning priorities, the ANND aims to help shape a more equitable and action-oriented outcome at COP30.
