The Centre d’Informació i Documentació Internacionals a Barcelona (CIDOB) is a leading think tank dedicated to analyzing global issues that shape political, social, and governance dynamics. Position Overview

CIDOB seeks a Researcher for the North Africa and Middle East (MENA) region to contribute to the SHAPEDEM-EU project and CIDOB’s broader research agenda. The successful candidate will explore internal and regional dynamics, EU relations, and global geopolitics in the MENA region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement research activities under the SHAPEDEM-EU project until September 2025.
  • Develop CIDOB’s research agenda on the MENA region.
  • Produce high-quality policy reports, academic articles, and opinion pieces.
  • Organize and implement events such as workshops, conferences, and seminars.
  • Represent CIDOB at external events, conferences, and in media engagements.
  • Foster partnerships with policymakers, academics, and networks regionally and internationally.
  • Translate research findings into actionable policy recommendations.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in human or social sciences (international relations specialization preferred).
  • PhD in a relevant field is an advantage.

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of research experience in think tanks, academia, or public sectors, focusing on MENA.
  • Proven ability to design research methodologies and conduct public policy-oriented studies.
  • Expertise in writing and editing high-quality publications (policy recommendations, academic articles, etc.).
  • Familiarity with organizing academic and public events, both in-person and online.
  • Established presence in political and academic debates in the MENA region.

Skills:

  • Languages: Fluent in English and Spanish (written and spoken). Catalan and additional languages are assets.
  • Strong public speaking and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multicultural, interdisciplinary teams.
  • Project and event management expertise, meeting tight deadlines effectively.

Employment Conditions

  • Contract: Permanent, preferably full-time.
  • Remuneration: Based on experience and CIDOB’s Collective Agreement standards.

Selection Process

  3. Final Deliberation: The Evaluation Committee will recommend the candidate(s) with the highest scores, with final approval from CIDOB’s Direction.
