Role Summary
The Principal Country Economist for Egypt will analyze macroeconomic issues, lead policy dialogues, and coordinate country strategies to deepen the Bank’s impact in Egypt. This role requires a strong understanding of regional development issues, technical economic expertise, and fluency in Arabic.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth macroeconomic analysis and provide updates on economic developments in Egypt.
- Contribute to the preparation of Bank flagship publications like African Economic Outlook and Regional Economic Outlooks.
- Lead and support Country Strategy Papers (CSPs), regional diagnostics, and mid-term reviews.
- Undertake Economic and Sector Work (ESW), including governance profiling and policy analysis.
- Collaborate with the Bank’s Business Delivery Units to enhance policy dialogue and partnerships.
- Provide technical advice for budget support loans and country fragility assessments.
- Participate in aid coordination activities with international donors.
- Prepare Country Portfolio Reviews and monitor the implementation of Bank-funded programs.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Master’s degree in Economics or a related discipline.
- Experience: Minimum of 6 years in macroeconomic analysis, policy management, and country strategy development, preferably in Africa.
- Proven expertise in economic modeling, forecasting, and sector analysis.
- Experience with policy dialogues, governance profiling, and fragility assessments.
Skills and Competencies
- Strategic planning and organizational skills with an ability to work under pressure.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills to influence stakeholders.
- Proficiency in economic modeling software and statistical tools.
- Fluency in Arabic is required, along with proficiency in English or French (knowledge of both is an advantage).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
