In preparation for the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in 2025, the Pulitzer Center is offering two unique grants:

  1. Journalism Grants for impactful climate change reporting.
  2. Civil Society Grants for NGOs and grassroots organizations addressing climate-related challenges.

These grants aim to amplify the global response to the climate crisis by fostering informed journalism and empowering civil society initiatives to create meaningful change.

Grant Categories and Eligibility

1. Journalism Grants

Who Can Apply?

  • Professional journalists, independent reporters, and media organizations worldwide.

Eligible Projects:

  • Investigative reporting, in-depth features, and multimedia projects focusing on global/local climate issues.

Requirements:

  • Applicants must have a proven track record in journalism or media, especially in environmental or climate reporting.
  • No formal education requirements.

2. Civil Society Grants

Who Can Apply?

  • Non-governmental organizations (NGOs), community-based organizations, and grassroots groups.

Eligible Projects:

  • Advocacy campaigns, community engagement, education programs, and climate resilience efforts.

Requirements:

  • Open to organizations globally, with emphasis on those in regions most impacted by climate change (developing countries, vulnerable populations).
  • Demonstrated commitment to climate justice or environmental advocacy.

Program Details

Journalism Grants:

Objective:

  • To fund in-depth projects that examine climate change implications, promote solutions, and engage diverse audiences.

Support Includes:

  • Funding for travel, research, equipment, and other project-related costs.

Duration:

  • Projects typically last a few months to one year, depending on scope.

Civil Society Grants

Objective:

  • To support organizations promoting climate resilience, environmental justice, and sustainable policies.

Support Includes:

  • Funding for activities such as advocacy campaigns, community capacity-building, and education programs.

Duration:

  • Projects are supported for 6 months to 1 year, based on proposed objectives.

How to Apply

Application Process:

  1. For Journalism Grants:
    • Submit a proposal outlining the project scope, target audience, and anticipated impact.
    • Include a portfolio or links to previous work.
  2. For Civil Society Grants:
    • Submit a detailed project proposal, including goals, target communities, timeline, and expected outcomes.
    • Demonstrate the organization’s capacity to execute the project.
