Hosted by the International Law and Human Rights Unit (ILHRU) at the University of Liverpool, this annual postgraduate conference provides a unique platform for postgraduate research students specializing in international law, human rights, and related subjects to present their work, engage in discussions, and connect with peers.
This year’s theme, “Conflict and Contestation in International Law,” will be broadly interpreted to welcome diverse perspectives from doctrinal, normative, historical, conceptual, and comparative approaches.
Presentation Formats
- Paper Presentation – Traditional academic presentations.
- Poster Presentation – Share research visually and engage with attendees.
- Soapbox Session – Five-minute provocative legal argument followed by a ten-minute Q&A with the audience.
Keynote Speaker
Professor Christine Schwöbel-Patel (University of Warwick)
Professor Schwöbel-Patel is a leading scholar in public international law, with critical perspectives on global constitutionalism, international criminal law, and climate justice. Her books include:

Applicants can submit multiple proposals.

Conference Fee & Funding
Participation Fee: £50 (Expected to be covered by your home institution)
Fee waivers available for those unable to secure funding—please inquire when submitting your application.
