Suzanna Khalifa (Sciences Po Paris) is hiring a full-time Pre-Doctoral Research Assistant (Pre-Doc) to support research at all stages of the research process. The position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in development economics, gender studies, and labor market research, with a regional focus on the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). This is an ideal role for candidates considering graduate studies (PhD in economics, public policy, political science, or data science) and seeking rigorous research experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Management & Analysis
- Clean, organize, and manage large datasets using Stata.
- Conduct regression analyses and ensure data quality and security.
- Extract data from public sources (web scraping, etc.) when needed.
- Literature Reviews
- Conduct thorough literature searches.
- Summarize empirical findings and theoretical frameworks.
- Survey & Experimental Design
- Develop and pilot survey instruments using SurveyCTO.
- Assist in designing experimental protocols (e.g., RCTs).
- Contribute to IRB applications, data collection protocols, and grant proposals.
- Fieldwork (if feasible)
- Support or coordinate data collection activities in Egypt.
- Assist with qualitative interviews and pilot testing of instruments.
- Research Support & Communication
- Communicate with field partners and collaborators in English (Arabic proficiency is a plus).
- Contribute to academic writing, presentations, and project documentation.
Requirements:
- A highly motivated individual with a strong interest in applied research and development economics.
- Proficiency in Stata (or equivalent statistical software).
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and writing abilities in English.
- Experience with Arabic (desirable but not required).
- Previous research experience (e.g., data cleaning, literature reviews, fieldwork) is a plus.
