The Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies invites applications for the Fifth Conference for Arab Graduate Students in Western Universities, to be held in Doha, Qatar. This conference offers Arab doctoral candidates and recent PhD graduates in the social sciences and humanities the opportunity to present research related to their dissertations, receive academic feedback, and engage with scholars and peers from across the Arab world

The event aims to strengthen connections to Arab academic priorities and promote scholarly networks in the region.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must meet one of the following:

  • Be a PhD candidate in the advanced stages of their dissertation, enrolled in a Western university (Europe, North America, or Oceania),
  • Or be a recent PhD graduate (within 2 years) from a Western university,
  • And have a demonstrable connection to a member-state of the Arab League.

Application Requirements (Due by September 1, 2025):

Applicants must register via the Arab Center’s Researchers System and submit:

  1. Research proposal (max 500 words, in Arabic or English)
  2. Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  3. One academic reference, submitted directly by the referee via email to: arabdoctorate.conf@dohainstitute.edu.qa
  4. (Optional) A writing sample (e.g., a prior research paper or published article)

If Accepted:

Participants must submit the following by February 15, 2026:

  • Final paper (between 6,000 and 9,000 words, including footnotes and references)
  • Extended abstract (max 1,000 words) to be shared with attendees

Logistics & Support:

  • Registration is free
  • Meals and accommodation will be provided during the conference
  • Travel grants to cover transportation costs to Qatar are available on a competitive basis
