Amid rising concerns about the censorship of Palestinian narratives online, especially in Europe, this project seeks to investigate how national regulations and platform policies intersect to enable or suppress digital expression across six countries:
France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, Ireland, and Italy.
This research will critically assess:
- Online censorship patterns targeting Palestinian content,
- The influence of laws like the EU Digital Services Act (DSA),
- The role of platforms, governments, and civil society.
Objectives
- Document and analyze censorship practices affecting Palestinian-related content.
- Compare relevant legal and policy frameworks in the six countries.
- Examine civic responses and institutional roles in moderation or resistance.
- Deliver actionable recommendations to platforms, regulators, and advocacy actors.
Scope of Work
The Lead Researcher will:
- Conduct desk research on content laws, moderation policies, and platform data.
- Coordinate semi-structured interviews (3–5 per country) with relevant stakeholders.
- Analyze case studies of censorship incidents.
- Draft and revise a comparative report, country briefs, and a policy brief.

Eligibility & Qualifications
- Proven expertise in digital rights, freedom of expression, or platform governance
- Experience in comparative legal/policy research in Europe
- Familiarity with Palestinian digital rights or MENA advocacy is a plus
- Excellent research, writing, and coordination skills
- Fluent English required; knowledge of French, German, Dutch, or Italian is an asset
