About the Program
7amleh’s new fellowship brings together 4–6 researchers to produce critical, justice-centered research on AI, surveillance, and digital repression in Palestine and its global entanglements. The program supports independent but mentored research that is academically rigorous yet accessible to policymakers, advocates, and the public.
Fellows will receive:
- Academic mentorship and research infrastructure.
- Digital security support.
- Access to 7amleh’s advocacy platforms and networks.
- Monetary compensation (stipend disclosed in offer letters).
Research Themes (examples)
- AI in military targeting in Gaza & international humanitarian law.
- Surveillance infrastructure (facial recognition, predictive policing) in West Bank, Gaza, Jerusalem.
- Export of Israeli surveillance/military tech globally.
- Exploitation of Palestinian data (biometric, telecoms, financial, metadata).
- Algorithmic bias and censorship of Palestinian narratives online.
- Legal frameworks and accountability gaps in AI weaponisation.
- Online disinformation campaigns targeting Palestinians and allies.
Expected Outputs
Each fellow will produce:
- 1 original research paper (6,000–8,000 words).
- 1 policy brief with key findings/recommendations.
- 1 public-facing piece (op-ed, article, or multimedia).
- Active participation in:
- Monthly check-ins and mentoring.
- Peer-learning sessions.
- At least one public event/webinar hosted by 7amleh.
Eligibility
Applicants should:
- Hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent academic/professional experience).
- Have strong research and writing skills.
- Show proven commitment to digital rights, human rights, and/or social justice.
- Be familiar with Palestinian context and global digital rights debates.
- Have prior academic or policy publication experience.
Preferred: Technical expertise in AI, data science, programming, or related fields combined with policy/social science background.
