Greenpeace Middle East and North Africa (GP MENA) is an independent environmental organization working to protect the environment and address climate change in the region. Through science, advocacy, and storytelling, GP MENA empowers communities and amplifies voices to build a just and sustainable future.
Role Overview
GP MENA is launching an Arabic-language podcast series that tells climate and environmental stories from a human and cultural perspective. Each 5–7 minute episode is designed to blend memory, emotion, and ecological reflection.
They are looking for talented Arabic-speaking scriptwriters to craft 8–10 emotionally engaging, culturally rooted scripts that connect with listeners across the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Write compelling Arabic scripts (5–7 minutes / 700–1000 words) per assigned episode theme.
- Propose or adapt episode ideas to align with the podcast’s tone and vision.
- Provide sound design and voice cue suggestions.
- Deliver revisions (up to two rounds) based on editorial feedback.
- Use a poetic, conversational tone that resonates with audiences in the MENA region.
Themes May Include
- Climate and daily life: Heatwaves, rising costs, shifting weather and their impact on families.
- Cultural memory and sustainability: Grandparents’ traditions of resourcefulness and respect for nature.
- Food and land: Agriculture, soil, and their connection to identity.
- Health and the body: Pollution’s effect on health, with a focus on women and girls.
- Loss and resilience: Disappearing species, changing landscapes, and coping with loss.
- Love, family, community: How climate change shapes everyday experiences.
- Eco-anxiety and hope: Reflections on the future and possibilities for change.
Eligibility & Qualifications
- Based in the MENA region (e.g. Egypt, UAE, KSA, Jordan, Lebanon, Tunisia, Morocco).
- Proven experience in creative writing or storytelling (podcast scripting is a plus).
- Strong grasp of local culture, language, and sensitivities.
- Ability to write with emotional depth and simplicity.
- Familiarity with climate and environmental issues.
