The CERC Migration and Bridging Divides Journalism Fellowship at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) is now open for applications. This unique opportunity offers experienced journalists a one-month residency in Toronto, providing the chance to engage with world-class migration research, scholars, and policy experts in Canada and beyond.
About the Fellowship
This fellowship is designed for staff or freelance journalists with a strong track record in covering topics such as:
- Immigration and integration
- Politics and social issues
- Global affairs and the economy
It offers participants a rare chance to step away from daily newsroom pressures and immerse themselves in focused learning and exchange, gaining sharper insight into the complexities of migration.
During the residency, fellows will also share perspectives on journalism practice, contributing to discussions on how research can be communicated effectively to the wider public. Importantly, there is no obligation to produce stories about TMU during or after the residency.
Fellowship Benefits
Selected fellows will receive:
- Stipend of $5,000 CAD, including travel allowance, to support their stay
- A dedicated academic host from the CERC Migration research team
- Office space and access to resources at the CERC Migration facility
- Opportunities for networking and professional development through research events and workshops
Residency Details
- Location: Toronto, Canada
- Duration: 20–35 consecutive days
- Residency Period: Between March 1 and November 30, 2026 (excluding July and August)
