The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) is inviting applications for the position of Program Coordinator, Levant, a fully remote role for professionals based in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region or nearby time zones.
Founded in 1981, CPJ is a leading independent, non-profit organisation that defends journalists and press freedom worldwide. Through advocacy, assistance, and research, CPJ works to ensure that journalists can report freely and safely, protecting the public’s right to access information.
About the Role
The Program Coordinator (PC) plays a key role in advancing CPJ’s mission across the Levant sub-region — including the IoPT, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, and Iraq. Reporting to the Regional Director, MENA, the PC oversees daily program operations, team coordination, advocacy efforts, and journalist support activities.

Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily work and priorities of regional researchers and fellows.
- Track press freedom incidents, advocacy pipelines, and program milestones.
- Draft advocacy materials, press releases, and reports.
- Support journalist assistance cases and regional advocacy campaigns.
- Collaborate with global teams and external partners on strategic initiatives.
- Represent CPJ in relevant forums and maintain strong relationships with civil society actors.
Qualifications
- Minimum 4 years of experience in journalism, human rights, or advocacy.
- Proven ability to manage projects and coordinate cross-functional teams.
- Strong writing, editing, and organizational skills.
- Fluency in Arabic and English (French is a plus).
- Experience working in or covering the MENA region, with deep understanding of the Levant context.
- High ethical standards, integrity, and ability to manage confidential information.
Position Details
Location: Remote (based in MENA region or nearby time zone)
Type: Full-time (40 hours/week, Monday–Friday)
Reports to: Regional Director, MENA
Compensation: Based on location and experience, aligned with CPJ’s international pay practices
