The International Health Economics Association (IHEA) is excited to announce the launch of its Fellowship Program, aimed at supporting early-career researchers (ECRs) in health economics. This program, made possible with funding from the Canadian Centre for Health Economics (CCHE/CCES) and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC/CRDI), offers a collaborative and mentorship-based research opportunity for emerging talent in health economics.

Program Overview

The Fellowship Program provides early-career researchers the chance to work closely with an experienced mentor over 12 to 18 months. The program supports fellows through every stage of their research, from proposal development and data analysis to publishing findings and presenting at conferences.

Fellowship Benefits

    • USD 5,000 for each mentor-mentee pair to support project-related expenses.

Application Process

The application process consists of two stages:

Stage 1: Application Submission

  • Complete the relevant application form available on the IHEA website by February 17, 2025.
  • Applications will be reviewed to assess eligibility and identify suitable mentor-mentee matches.

Stage 2: Proposal Development

  • Matched mentor-mentee pairs will create a brief research proposal and work plan within 4-6 weeks.

The proposal must include:

  • A clear and relevant research question.
  • Motivation for the research within the local context.
  • Methodological approach.
  • Planned outputs (e.g., publications, presentations).

The work plan should detail:

  • Activities and timeline (e.g., Gantt chart).
  • Collaborative methods (e.g., communication frequency, co-authorship).
  • Budget allocation for the USD 5,000 Fellowship Award.

Eligibility and Focus Areas

  • Early-Career Researchers:
    • Individuals in health economics looking for mentorship to advance their research skills.
  • Experienced Mentors:
    • Senior researchers ready to guide the next generation of health economists.
  • Research must be conducted in the mentee’s home country and address locally relevant issues, with an emphasis on policy impact.

Program Outputs and Expectations

Fellows are expected to:

  • Submit a financial report detailing Fellowship fund usage.
  • Publish at least one peer-reviewed journal article.
  • Present research findings at the IHEA Congress.
  • Share experiences and insights during the Congress to inspire others interested in the Fellowship.
