
The Institute for Advanced Study in the Global South (#IAS_NUQ) at Northwestern University in Qatar invites applications for two postdoctoral fellowships beginning in 2026. These residential fellowships support innovative scholarship on the histories, cultures, societies, and media of the Global South.
We especially welcome candidates whose work engages non-Western theories, sources, and contexts, with emphasis on:
- Comparative or transnational research on media, culture, and/or politics across the Arab world, Latin America, and Africa
- Humanistic approaches to Arab media in broader cultural, social, or political contexts
- Southern Digitalities: digital cultures, AI/data studies, infrastructure studies, and digital advocacy in the Global South
Fellowship Details
- Residential, full-time postdoctoral fellowship (renewable up to 3 years)
- Competitive stipend, research fund, housing, health insurance, workspace, computer, library access
- Relocation expenses subsidized
- Fellows may teach one undergraduate course per year
- Expected to be in residence at least 4 days a week on NUQ’s Education City campus in Doha
- PhD must be completed between 1 January 2024 and 1 June 2026
