The United Nations Young Professionals Programme (YPP) 2025 is now open for applications! This prestigious initiative offers talented individuals from participating countries a gateway to begin a meaningful international career with the UN Secretariat — one of the world’s most influential global institutions.
About the YPP
The UN YPP is designed to attract highly qualified, motivated, and globally minded young professionals eager to make an impact on international peace, development, and human rights. It’s more than just a job opportunity — it’s a comprehensive career development pathway that combines rigorous assessment with professional growth inside the UN system.
Successful candidates join the UN as entry-level professionals (P-1/P-2 level) and gain access to career advancement opportunities, mentorship, and specialized training, enabling them to grow into future leaders of the organization.
How the Programme Works
The YPP selection process is competitive and consists of several stages:
- Application Phase:
Interested applicants must apply through Inspira, the UN’s official recruitment portal, during the designated application period (typically June each year). - Eligibility:
- Applicants must be nationals of participating countries (the list changes annually).
- They must hold at least a first-level university degree relevant to the subject area of the exam.
- Applicants must be 32 years old or younger in the year of application.
- Fluency in English or French (the UN’s working languages) is required.
- Entrance Examination:
Candidates who meet eligibility criteria are invited to sit for a competitive written exam that tests analytical, drafting, and substantive skills in specific subject areas based on UN staffing needs. - Interview and Roster Placement:
Those who pass the written test are invited to a competency-based interview. Successful candidates are then placed on a Global Talent Roster, which is used by UN departments to fill suitable positions.
Subject Areas
The exam fields vary each year depending on the UN’s requirements. Previous YPPs have included areas such as:
- Political Affairs and Human Rights
- Social and Economic Development
- Public Information and Communication
- Administration and Finance
- Statistics, Legal Affairs, and more
