The Al Jazeera Media Institute (AJMI) invites applications for its Fellowship Programme, aimed at advancing excellence and innovation in journalism across the Global South. The programme provides journalists and researchers with the opportunity to engage in research, develop new ideas, and gain first-hand experience within the Al Jazeera Media Network (AJMN).
Objectives
- Contribute to the development of high-quality journalism and media innovation.
- Support journalists in adapting to modern technologies.
- Enrich journalistic content and foster research on media practices in the Global South.
- Offer participants an immersive learning experience within AJMN’s working environment.
Fellowship Tracks
1. Al Jazeera Fellowship
Duration: 3 months
Format: Hybrid (remote and in-person at Al Jazeera Headquarters, Doha)
About:
Fellows will produce a 7,000-word research paper on a selected journalism-related topic. During the fellowship, participants will:
- Collaborate with AJMN teams and engage with editors, journalists, and researchers.
- Experience Al Jazeera’s newsroom culture and editorial practices.
- Conduct original research contributing to the field of journalism.
Eligibility:
- Full-time journalists and researchers with a background in media or social sciences.
Phases:
- Phase 1 (Remote): Develop and submit a research plan and introduction.
- Phase 2 (On-site): Continue and finalize the research paper at AJMN headquarters.
2. Visiting Journalist Fellowship
This programme will open at a later date. Details and application instructions will be announced in due course.
Selection Process
Applications are reviewed by a committee based on:
- Fulfilment of eligibility requirements.
- Relevance and originality of the research proposal.
- Potential contribution to AJMN’s mission and journalism globally.
