The International Law of Security, Peace and Sustainable Development (ILSPSD) is an interdisciplinary, mobility-based Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s programme designed to prepare future global leaders for careers shaping international law, global governance, security policy, and sustainable development. Delivered over two years by a consortium of leading European universities, the programme combines academic excellence with professional exposure, cultural immersion, and hands-on learning.

ILSPSD equips graduates with advanced knowledge and applied skills at the intersection of international law, international relations, security studies, and sustainability, enabling them to address complex global challenges with analytical depth and practical competence.

Students choose one of two structured pathways:

  1. Globalization, Law and Security
    Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Portugal)
    • Newly added full partner university
    • Focus on global governance, security institutions, and legal frameworks
  2. International Law and International Security
    University of Glasgow (United Kingdom)
    • Emphasis on applied legal analysis, security studies, and institutional practice

Throughout the two-year programme, students study at three European universities, ensuring deep academic, cultural, and professional exposure.

Expanded Summer School Portfolio

Four new summer schools will be offered in:

  • The United Kingdom
  • The Netherlands
  • Germany
  • Portugal

These cover topics such as environmental governance, policy innovation, European law, global security, and conflict resolution.


Who Can Apply?

The programme welcomes candidates from all academic backgrounds with strong motivation and a global outlook.

Minimum Academic Requirements

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent)
  • Specific entry criteria may vary by specialization track and host university

Open to Global Applicants

  • No nationality restrictions
  • Applicants may apply for either an Erasmus Mundus scholarship or a self-funded place

Scholarships and Funding

The programme offers competitive Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Scholarships, which cover:

  • Full tuition fees
  • Travel expenses
  • Comprehensive insurance
  • A monthly living stipend

Scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence, motivation, and overall application strength.

Self-funded and externally funded applicants are also welcome to apply.
